Ebony Johnson known by the stage name “Ebony J is an inspiring American R&B singer/song-writer. She was born in the small town of Lima, Ohio. Ebony grew up in a middle class family with four older brothers and a younger sister. Early in life, Ebony stood out as a determined child and that motivation would show in many future accomplishments throughout her life.
Ebony discovered her love for singing at the age of 5, which was inspired by listening to her mother sing while doing household chores. Singing however, was not a stranger to Ebony’s family. Her mother was a member of the “Rose Sisters, a singing group consisting of Ebony’s mother and Ebony’s four aunts. Ebony’s mother was scared but not surprised when Ebony came to her and expressed her desire to be in the 1st grade talent show. Her mother was scared because she knew that if Ebony made a mistake in the talent show, she wouldn’t be able to protect her from the response of the audience. But not much to her surprise Ebony proved to be a regular on the stage. That talent show marked the beginning of Ebony’s music career. Ebony continued to be in every elementary school talent show after gaining such a positive response from her audience. She quickly became a talent that the audience looked forward to seeing every year. Throughout those years Ebony was inspired by many professional music acts such as Mary J. Blige, TLC, Envogue, Brandy, Monica, and Zhane.
At the age of 12, Ebony began to write songs through creative thinking and she would sing them to her parents and friends on the school playground. She performed in many local city talent shows, weddings, as well as Lima Idol. As a Varsity basketball player Ebony was given the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at all of the Boys and Girls Varsity basketball games.
After high school Ebony slowed down her singing career in order to focus on her college degree. A few years later she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Family Financial Management. After college Ebony began to put her focus back into her singing career. She began writing more music and recording tracks.
